Welcome to September 2026! How was your August?

Well, we can definitely say we had sun this summer! Fred, the tortoise, loved it, whereas Baz and Sprout, the cats, did feel a little too warm on certain days — as did I.

It was lovely to wake up, have a cup of tea in the garden, and see beautiful blue skies above me, listening to the birds and the gentle hum of nature as they started their day.

It’s been one of those summers where there was no need to venture abroad. It’s been glorious here, although air conditioning would certainly have been welcomed, especially at night! Great for the kiddies, too, having a proper summer holiday before starting school again.

For me, August was busy with work and getting my Dad and step-mum’s house ready to go to market. Gosh, for those of you who have had to go through your late parents’ belongings and decide what to do with everything, you’ll know just how hard and emotionally taxing it can be. It was only a few years ago that I did the same with my Mum and Derrick, and now I’m doing it again with my Dad’s things.

We have a family bureau that has many artefacts going back three generations. Some of the things we discovered were wonderful to read, while others were a little more private. I now have lots and lots of photos to wade through and try to make sense of.

I would dearly love to do our family tree. I keep thinking, “If only Dad or Mum were here, they’d be able to tell me who this person is in this photo.”

The following three photos are my great-grandmother, Agnes Marshallsay; my Grandad, Charlie Marshallsay; and my Dad, Fred Marshallsay. Aren’t they great?

Well, I love them! And to see the family resemblance that both Theo and I have inherited is amazing.

When we were children, every year Dad took us on a month-long family holiday around Europe. We were so lucky to explore many amazing countries and experience different cultures from such a young age.

We used to pile into the campervan and then fall out of it again after travelling hundreds of miles! Dad never thought twice about driving from 7 am to 7 pm, and sometimes later — we travelled miles and miles. When we eventually reached a campsite, sometimes after visiting several before finding the right one, we’d roll out of the van, and you could almost see the other campers thinking, “How many more are in there?”

We used to joke that we were the Von Trapp family — for those who know, the family from The Sound of Music. We even used to play the soundtrack, especially when travelling through Austria. It seemed very fitting!

Another familiar sight during our family holidays was Dad setting up his easel and painting the scene before him.

He was an architect by profession, but he took great delight in taking out his sketchbook or watercolours to capture the sights around him. It was lovely to see him completely absorbed in his painting, wherever we happened to be.

The first image in this newsletter is one of my dad’s paintings.

I was fortunate to spend time with four of my siblings this year too. We visited London and saw the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, starring Sam Ryder. It was incredible, and it was so lovely to spend time with my two sisters and brother.

Hannah and I also saw Les Misérables last Friday. For anyone who hasn’t seen this show, I’d highly recommend it. It’s so moving (yes, I cried!) and the songs are incredibly powerful. It was equally lovely to spend some quality time with Hannah in London.

I’m definitely going to miss her when she goes back to uni.

There’s something quietly beautiful about September.

The days still hold a little summer, but there’s a shift in the air. Mornings feel cooler, evenings draw in, and nature gently reminds us that change doesn’t have to be rushed.

September can feel like a second New Year — a natural moment to pause, reset, and ask: What do I want more of this season? What am I ready to leave behind?

As the seasons change, take your wellbeing outdoors. Notice the changing leaves, the cooler breeze, the sound of rain, and the first signs of autumn berries. Even a ten-minute walk without headphones can be a small act of grounding. Nature has a wonderful way of reminding us that nothing stays the same — and that beauty exists in every season.

September affirmation

After the brightness and busyness of summer, September invites us back to our routines. But rather than filling every space in the diary, perhaps this is a month to create a little more room.

Room to breathe.Room to sleep well.Room to move our bodies.Room to be present.

I give myself permission to slow down, listen inwardly and embrace the season I am in.

Simply notice what we need—and respond with a little more kindness.

Mindfulness practice for September

Try creating a simple “autumn reset” once a week.

Light a candle, make a warm drink and put your phone somewhere out of reach. Take five quiet minutes to reflect:

What has been nourishing me lately?

What has been draining me?

What would support me this week?

You don’t need to have all the answers. The value is in pausing long enough to hear yourself.

Crystal of the month – Orange Calcite

Orange Calcite is known as the stone of joy. It’s a wonderful stone to help balance the emotions and release feelings of fear and anxiety. It is also renowned for enhancing creativity, bringing positivity and stability.

Often linked with the sacral chakra, it is thought to support emotional balance, playfulness and inspiration – making it a lovely crystal to turn to if you need a little sunshine in your day.

Angel Card

Take Charge and Action

The Angel Guide Oracle Deck, Kyle Gray

As I connect with this card for the month of September, the angels are saying you have the power in your hands. Wherever you place your intentions, the energy will fire there, like an arrow from a bow. Let go of what is no longer serving you, but with love, always with love. Have graceful and loving intentions, always. If it is done with anger, it will return to you threefold. Remember the angels are with you, gently guiding you, but once you have set your intention, let it flow – with power, love and grace. It’s your turn to take charge and act.

With September now upon us, remember you don’t have to return to September as a “better” version of yourself.

You can simply return as yourself. A little more rested.A little more intentional.A little more connected to what matters. Let September be less about starting over, and more about coming home to yourself.

With that said, I wonder what this September has in store for each of us. Whatever it brings, may it be fun and peaceful. Maybe think of ways you can have quality time with the people in your life or quality time with yourself. Be present and, as I always say, be kind to all, but mostly yourself. I look forward to seeing you soon, with love and light.
