Reflexology Lymph Drainage (RLD)
What is RLD?

By working solely on the reflexes correlating to the lymphatic drainage system of the body, RLD is able to bring relief to those suffering with lymphoedema and other life limiting illnesses in a simple non-invasive manner.

The lymphatic system transports the lymph around the body. Lymph is a fluid that contains the infection fighting white blood cells and therefore helps remove waste, toxins and other unwanted objects from the body.

I adore generic reflexology and continue to be amazed by the positive impact it has on many lives and now RLD now has brought a new and incredible dimension – by simply working solely on the lymphatic system the whole body benefits. RLD’s routine is fluid and gentle for the client to receive. To me, I feel it’s almost like a dance across the feet when I’m giving RLD, I find myself mesmerised and getting totally absorbed in giving the treatment.

Will RLD help me?

The potential for RLD seems endless. Although the technique was originally developed to treat lymphoedema of the arm and leg, RLD has been proven through continuous studies and research to be beneficial for:

  • Eliminating toxins: By working solely on the Lymphatic System it can efficiently and effectively help remove toxins from the body.

  • Reflexology/RLD can help reduce cancer treatment symptoms, including nausea, pain, constipation or diarrhoea.

  • Fibromyalgia: a chronic condition of widespread pain and profound fatigue. RLD can reduce the pain and tiredness associated with Fibromyalgia leading to an all over sense of wellbeing.

  • Anxiety and depression: Anxiety and depression are the most common mental health problems. The relaxation benefits of RLD can decrease depression and anxiety.

  • Migraine and tension headaches: The therapeutic flow of RLD can effectively reduce tension and migraine headaches.

  • Sinusitis is a chronic or acute condition often caused by another respiratory infection like the flu, a cold, or bronchitis. RLD can help improve chronic sinusitis.

  • Reflexology massage can help improve blood circulation in the feet and throughout the body.

  • Research has found that reflexology may be as effective as painkillers for osteoarthritis.

What happens at the treatment?

At your first treatment I will take a full medical history, and ask you to sign a consent form for treatment (please allow extra time for the first appointment). This information will be kept confidential. Before the treatment commences, we will discuss what you may experience and what your expectations are. RLD is a very easy therapy to receive; and the only clothing you will need to remove are your socks and shoes. The treatment will be given to you on the therapy couch or reflexology chair depending on what feels more comfortable for you.

If you are having RLD for Lymphatic Drainage due to lymphoedema, a series of measurements will be taken to record the results.

The history of RLD

RLD was developed from first principles and extensive clinical practice by Sally Kay. Sally first researched and developed RLD as a desire to help patients with breast cancer related lymphoedema. She discovered by isolating the reflexes of the lymphatic system on the feet and by working in a methodical way she made incredible and positive benefits to the body.

“The creation of RLD came from the desire to help relieve the physical and emotional symptoms of lymphoedema, with knowledge of the lymphatic system and Manual Lymph Drainage. I learnt to question things rather than to just ask questions.” Sally Kay.
