Reflexology for menopause
What is Reflexology for Menopause?

“Menopause is a time to Pause and Reframe: Who do you want to be for the next phase of your life and how can you achieve that?”

Sally Earlam

Menopause and perimenopause is a completely natural process that will impact everyone’s lives, not just the women who physically experience it. However, it really doesn’t have to be the negative “change” many portray it to be - it is a time to pause, reframe and embrace the next stage of life. This may mean making some conscious lifestyle changes to ensure healthy ageing and living life to the full.

Our journey will begin with discussing the Five Pillars for a Healthy Menopause, which are the foundations for healthy ageing - Diet, Exercise, Relaxation, Sleep and Purpose. It’s an opportunity to look at your current lifestyle and identify where a few tweaks could be made to improve it.

On average, the transition through to menopause is roughly 4 years, but it can range from between 1-12 years – the average age a woman reaches menopause in the UK is 51. It is estimated that 80% of women in the UK experience some symptoms, the most common being night sweats and hot flushes – the great news is that research has shown that reflexology can help these symptoms. Of course, there are times when we seek medical help, but there is an increasing number of women that would like to try natural solutions, including reflexology.

I am trained and qualified in Reflexology for Menopause which means you are getting optimum care. I also appreciate everyone’s experience is very different and I’m interested to hear, without judgment, the symptoms you are experiencing and in doing this but I will plan your reflexology specifically for you.

What happens at the treatment?

At your first treatment I will take a full medical history along with the perimenopause/menopause symptom checklist. We will then discuss the 5 pillars for a healthier menopause. I’ll give you an information sheet with a simple breakdown of each aspect and I can send you a pdf link for a more detailed booklet which you can read at your own leisure. Once I have all this information I’ll then be able to devise a reflexology programme specifically designed for you needs.

Like all reflexology treatments, it is a very easy therapy to receive; and the only clothing you will need to remove is your footwear and if possible allow me to access to the lower shin as there are some acupressure points there. The treatment will be given to you on the therapy chair which is super comfortable.

For more details, please look at the Reflexology page.

How often do I need to have reflexology?

As with all complementary therapies there is a cumulative effect. If you are able to have a few treatments close together you should see quicker results. In an ideal world one treatment a week for the first 4-6 weeks, then a couple a fortnight apart before continuing with monthly treatments. It is an investment, but one that will impact your health positively. I do appreciate that an ideal world isn’t always possible and even monthly treatments are beneficial. I am very happy to discuss this and answer any questions you may have.
