What beautiful weather we’ve had this September! At last, the grass is looking green again, and, as I mentioned last month, we’ve certainly enjoyed a wonderful summer of sunshine and warmth (sometimes even a little too hot!).

Last month, I finally took a much-needed break and headed to Cornwall. As a Dorset girl, I never really ventured into Devon or Cornwall, as it always felt a little disloyal to our gorgeous county. However, I’ve heard so many wonderful things about Cornwall over the years that I felt it was time to see for myself. And yes, I can honestly say it really is a beautiful place.

I stayed near the very start/end of the country, close to the little fishing village of Porthleven, and spent my days exploring and walking sections of the South West Coast Path. Wow! What absolutely stunning scenery we have here in England.

The locals were so friendly, and it reminded me of Dorset 40 years ago, when people would stop for a chat, pass the time of day, or simply smile and say, “What a beautiful day,” as you passed them on a walk. It had that lovely, familiar feeling of home, and I absolutely loved it.

I imagine Cornwall gets incredibly busy and very touristy at the height of the season, but September was just perfect.

As I mentioned, the scenery is spectacular, but there's so much more to enjoy: fascinating history, wonderful stories, quaint art galleries, and quirky little gift shops. Then, of course, there are the beautiful beaches and hidden coves, with their soft white sand and crystal-clear waters.

One of my favourite pleasures was sitting by the harbour, enjoying a cool glass of wine and some delicious "dirty fries" while listening to the cheerful chatter of the locals. And the food! It was so refreshing to discover so many independent eateries showcasing wonderful local produce, rather than the familiar chains we see everywhere. The food was absolutely mouth-wateringly delicious, not to mention the scrumptious Cornish pasties.

If you've never visited Cornwall, I highly recommend it.

One of my many memorable experiences was a visit to the Tate St Ives. I'm a lover of almost all forms of art, and I found the installation Shelters for the Senses by Aleksandra Kasuba absolutely fascinating.

As I walked through the installation, I felt as though I were moving through the seven main chakras. It's difficult to put the experience into words, but it was incredibly thought-provoking. As with all art, I'm sure it will evoke different feelings and interpretations in different people. It was so simple in concept, yet it made me stop, reflect and think. I found it quite extraordinary.

As I began to truly relax and unwind, I also felt a much stronger connection with loved ones who had passed. Mum, Dad and Jeffie seemed to become regular visitors. Perhaps they simply wanted to share in my time away. I think that, by finally slowing down and letting go of everyday stresses, I was more open to that connection. Whatever the reason, it was deeply comforting and very special.

And here we are, already in October, with autumn gently settling in. The leaves will soon turn beautiful shades of gold, amber and russet, and the evenings will draw in as we cosy up indoors.

October is a wonderful time of year to reflect on the idea that letting go is essential to growth.

Just as the trees shed their leaves, we too can begin to let go of anything that no longer serves us: old worries, self-doubt, expectations, and the constant need to have everything figured out.

We don't have to rush into becoming someone new or feel we need to change everything. Sometimes, simply making space for peace, rest and a little self-kindness is more than enough.

Perhaps this October, we can take a leaf out of nature's book, slow down, embrace the changing seasons, and remind ourselves that letting go isn't about losing something; it's about making room for new experiences, fresh perspectives, and the things that truly bring us joy.

October intention

"I release what I cannot control, embrace where I am, and trust that beautiful things are unfolding in their own time."

Take a deep breath, relax your shoulders and give yourself permission to simply be.

Mindfulness practice for October

As the nights draw in, this time of year offers us a lovely opportunity to create brief moments of calm and connection.

Why not set aside ten minutes this month to light a candle, sit quietly and reflect on what your heart needs?

You might like to:

  • Light a candle and set a peaceful intention for the month.

  • Take a mindful walk and notice autumn’s colours, sounds and scents.

  • Write down three things you're grateful for each evening.

  • Spend a little time meditating or simply sitting in silence.

Remember, it doesn't have to be complicated. It can be found in a quiet cup of tea, a kind word, or a moment when you feel truly at peace.

Crystal of the month –

Green Flourite

For those who have visited my treatment room, you may have seen my rather large, gorgeous green fluorite crystal – I love it!

Green fluorite is often associated with growth, renewal, clarity and emotional balance in crystal and spiritual traditions.

  • Growth and renewal — often symbolise fresh starts, personal development and moving forward.

  • Emotional balance — traditionally associated with calming emotional overwhelm and creating a greater sense of harmony.

  • Mental clarity — helps clear mental clutter and encourages clearer thinking.

  • Letting go — can help release old patterns, worries or situations that no longer serve you (great for this time of year).

  • Intuition and insight — often associated with becoming more aware of your inner guidance and trusting your own instincts.

  • Heart connection — its green colour is sometimes associated with the heart chakra, compassion, forgiveness and self-love.

Angel Card

Guardian Angel

The Angel Guide Oracle Deck, Kyle Gray

As I connect with this card for the month of October, I am guided to remind everyone that we all have at least one guardian angel with us through every lifetime we live. They are our constant companion and our biggest cheerleader. They are there with us through every stage of our life. Remember, you are never alone. You have a pure, loving energy watching and guiding you every day, through every thought, decision and choice you make. If we happen to take the wrong turn, they will guide us back onto the right path, should we choose their help.

We often put pressure on ourselves to be productive, positive and full of energy all the time. But, like nature, we have our own seasons.

Some days we blossom and thrive, while on other days we need to rest, recharge and give ourselves a little extra love and understanding.

If October feels like a time to slow down, embrace it. Allow yourself space to rest, reflect and simply be. Remember, we all have our own journey, and there's no need to compare yours with anyone else's. Trust your own timing, and remember that growth takes many forms.

With that said, I wonder what this October has in store for each of us. Whatever it brings, may it be a beautiful, peaceful and cosy October, filled with little moments of happiness, gratitude and perhaps a touch of autumn magic. Be present and, as I always say, be kind to all, but mostly yourself. I look forward to seeing you soon, with love and light.
